Frenchman Antoine Griezmann became Atletico Madrid’s all-time leading goal scorer despite his side going 5-3 down to Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

A neat turn with his left foot left one Real Madrid marker on the ground and another trailing in his wake before releasing a fierce shot with his right foot that saw the ball fly into the bottom corner of the net.

With the goal, Griezmann made history by netting his 174th goal for Atleti to overtake the legendary Luis Aragones as the club’s all-time leading scorer.

Griezmann has played 368 games for Atletico across all competitions and is in the best form of his career this season, already scoring 11 goals in LaLiga.  The 32-year-old has now cemented his legacy with the Spanish outfit and he also played a key role in France’s 2018 World Cup win.

The Frenchman and Atletico Madrid will now look ahead to next Thursday, when they take on Real Madrid once again. This time, it will be in the Copa del Rey, and it will be in front of the Colchonero faithful at the Civitas Metropolitano.
