“After 18 years as a Giallorossi footballer, De Rossi will return to the role of coach and will make his debut on our bench in the championship match against Verona on Saturday afternoon at the Olimpico.”
The club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin added: “We are happy to be able to hand over the technical responsibility of AS Roma to Daniele De Rossi, as we believe that the leadership and ambition that have always characterized him can be decisive in chasing the objectives that the team has ahead of it until end of the season,” said
“We knew the indissoluble bond that unites Daniele to the Club, but the enthusiasm with which he immediately accepted this challenge for the coming months further convinced us of his ability to be a guide for the players and a proud representative of the values of this club. Welcome home, Daniele.”
Born in Rome and raised in the Giallorossi youth sector, De Rossi made his debut in the First Team in 2001 and went on to play 616 games for Roma, becoming captain and scoring 63 goals in all competitions. He is the second-most-capped player in the Club’s history.
With the Giallorossi he won the Italian Cup twice, in 2007 and 2008, and an Italian Super Cup in 2007.
