Chelsea booked their place in the Carabao Cup final following their 6-1 win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
Despite the final time score line, visitors Boro started brightly as they looked to build on their 1-0 lead from the first leg but it was the hosts wo pulled level on aggregate before the 20-minute mark when Armando Broja’s shot deflected in off the knee of Jonny Howson.
The tension in Stamford Bridge was eased when Enzo Fernández pounced on a loose ball to tap home and deliver his side the lead. The tie was all but wrapped up before the break when Axel Disasi darted in behind the Boro defence before stabbing his effort in past the keeper to put Chelsea 3-0 up on the night, 3-1 on aggregate.
The in-form Cole Palmer joined the Chelsea party in the dying minutes of the half by caressing his effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box before grabbing his brace to put Chelsea five ahead only minutes before Noni Madueke got his name on the scoresheet as well. Morgan Rogers got the consolation for Boro when the game was long gone.
Chelsea now awaits the winner between Liverpool and Fulham in the other semi-finals set to be played on Wednesday night.
