Erling Haaland scored five as Manchester City thumped Luton 5-2 in the fifth round of the FA Cup played on Tuesday night.
After a rapid counterattack, Kevin De Bruyne picked out Erling Haaland from close range to break the deadlock inside five minutes. The two City stars linked up once again before the 20 minute mark, as De Bruyne played Haaland in behind before the forward slotted home the Blues’ second of the night. Once again, those two combined to see Haaland complete his first-half hat-trick in style.
Luton responded however, when Jordan Clark lined up a long-range curler from the edge of the box to cut City’s lead to two before the break. The home side reignited the tie after the break when Jordan Clark fired home once again, setting Kenilworth Road alight.
Those celebrations would not last long however, when, to nobody’s surprise, Kevin De Bruyne found Erling Haaland on the break once more to rekindle their two-goal lead. Haaland backed up his fourth with another only minutes later, this time being picked out by Bernardo Silva on the edge of the box to all but put an end to Luton’s hopes.
Mateo Kovačić continued to rub salt in the Luton wound with a long-range effort that beat Tim Krul in the Luton net, extending City’s lead to four.
Elsewhere Leicester City stunned Bournemouth 1-0 in extra-time to see the Championship leaders book their spot in the next round.
