Real Madrid and Manchester City became the latest teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Madrid made it through despite being held to a 1-1 draw by visiting RB Leipzig.  The German side will blame themselves in the game after failing to convert the numerous chances they created more so in the first half.

The Bundesliga outfit remained threatening after the break, making Real Madrid look rather shaky at the back. But somehow, the home side hung on to keep their lead intact as the half wore on. They were made to pay for their mistakes when Vinicius Junior fired a superb curler into the corner of the net to put the home side two clear on aggregate.

The celebrations did not last long though. From a corner just minutes later, RB Leipzig cut Real Madrid’s deficit when Willi Orbán headed home.

At the Etihad, three first-half goals saw Manchester City earned their spot in the quarter-final after easing past FC Copenhagen.

Manuel Akanji popped up from the back to fire home a superb strike from the edge of the box and put City three clear on aggregate. Julián Álvarez then fired the Pep Guardiola side four ahead on aggregate, all but killing off the tie.

While it was merely consolation, Copenhagen silenced the home crowd with a superb team move that was capped off by Mohamed Elyounoussi to cut City’s lead on the night in half.

The home side reclaimed their two-goal lead just before the half-time break however, as Erling Haaland darted inside on his left foot before firing home City’s third.
