Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester City have been dumped out of the UEFA Champions League following losses to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively.
A lone Joshua Kimmich goal was all Bayern Munich needed to see off Arsenal and book their ticket to the Champions League semi-final.
The two teams traded chances, but Bayern remained the more threatening when they got in behind the Arsenal midfield The hosts nearly found the opener just after the half-time restart, but somehow Leon Goretzka and Raphaël Guerreiro both hit the post in quick succession. They were finally rewarded for their efforts when Joshua Kimmich connected with a Raphaël Guerreiro cross to head home with ferocity.
City went out in post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time; the match at the Etihad coming after both teams battled to a 3-3 draw in the first leg.
The affair exploded to life soon after however, as Rodrygo fired home after Ederson saved his initial shot, giving the visitors a vital lead away from home. Madrid were headed for a win before Kevin de Bruyne came with an equalizer. In extra-time, it remained one-way traffic as City piled the pressure on and Real Madrid struggled to put two passes together.
After neither team could find an opening in the extra 30 minutes, the epic showdown headed to penalties. Despite an early miss from Luka Modrić, a pair of misses in quick succession from Manchester City saw them crash out after Antonio Rüdiger dispatched from the spot to send Real Madrid to the semi-finals where they will now face Bayern Munich.
