Ralf Rangnick has become the latest manager to reject an offer from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Bayern are looking for a manager to lead them from next season as Thomas Tuchel will be leaving in the summer but some of their targets, including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, have rejected their offers.
Bayern were confident of appointing Rangnick and were ready to offer the 65-year-old coach a contract until 2027. But despite final details being discussed, the German has made a complete U-turn in the last 24 hours.
After turning down Bayern, Rangnick will instead focus on his role as Austria’s head coach will preparations for Euro 2024 well underway.
Both Rangnick and Bayern Munich’s Christoph Freund know each other very well from their time together at RB Salzburg, a reason for Rangnick being the latest frontrunner for the head coach job on Säbener Straße.
According to Kicker, Rangnick felt that as a result of taking on the Bayern job, Austria’s performance at the upcoming European Championship next month could suffer. Not only that, the former RB Leipzig and Manchester United manager didn’t want to return to day-to-day business.
