Barcelona bounced back from their LaLiga title-conceding defeat to down Real Sociedad 2-0 on Monday night.

Raphinha signalled the hosts’ first attacking intent with a long-range effort which crashed back off the lefthand post late in the first half. Minutes later, Lamine Yamal opened the scoring courtesy of a sweeping finish inside the penalty area after being teed up by İlkay Gündoğan.

Brais Méndez spurned a gilt-edged opportunity to pull La Real level midway through the second half as he dragged an effort wide of Marc-André ter Stegen’s goal.

Deep into added time, Xavi’s side were awarded a penalty after a handball by Álvaro Odriozola, allowing Raphinha to covert from the spot.

The Blaugrana leapfrogged last weekend’s conquerors Girona into second by a point while Sociedad missed out on a chance to move into the final Europa League spot.
