Swedish giants AIK through Sporting Director Thomas Berntsen has revealed why Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje hasn’t featured for the club this season.

Sichenje had an impressive outing on loan in Finland with KuPS and even scooped the Young Player of the Year award as they finished second but has found game time hard to come by at his parent club this season.

While admitting that Sichenje has been professional about his lack of game time, Berntsen believes that the injury suffered by the player in preseason might have hampered his chances in the team and failed to rule out a summer move for the player.

“I have absolutely nothing to complain about there (the player’s professionalism). Collins is an ambitious player who trains hard and wants playing time, but it is the coach who brings the team out and I have 100% confidence in them. The players must do as well as possible in training to show that they will be allowed to play. As long as they are in AIK, they must focus on AIK.

“We shall see (if he will be sold in the summer). We make the decision that is best for AIK, but of course we take the player into account as well. Collins wants to play, but you have to remember that he was injured last winter and that it took time to get back to his highest level. As I said, the most important thing for us is AIK but we always consider our players as well,” Berntsen told Fotboll Direkt.

Sichenje was called up to the Harambee Stars team that faced Burundi and Ivory Coast in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers but didn’t manage to feature in any of the two games.
