FKF Premier League side Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC have learnt their opponents in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup respectively following the draw conducted by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) on Thursday afternoon.
Gor, who won the league, will be up against South Sudan’s El Merreikh FC Bentiu in the preliminary round of the Champions League with the Kenyan side set to travel away from home for the first leg tie between August 16 and 18 before hosting their opponents a week later in Nairobi.
The winner of the tie has a sterner test in the second and last preliminary stage as they will have a date against the competition’s defending Champions Al Ahly.
The game marks a return for the East African giants to the continental scene after missing last season’s campaign due to a ban by CAF after failing to meet club licensing requirements, after failing to pay some of their former players.
For Kenya Police, who will be making their maiden appearance in a continental stage, they will face Ethiopian Coffee in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup with the winner of the tie also facing an Egyptian opponent in Zamalek FC, who are the defending champions of the competition, in the second round of qualifications.
