McCowan however restored parity for the visitors 10 minutes from time from the penalty spot to earn the visitors a point on a weekend that only saw two teams record wins.

Of the teams that recorded wins in the opening round of the Scottish Premiership Season 2024/25 was Jonah Ayunga’s St Mirren with the Harambee Stars striker starting as they beat Hibernian 3-0.

A double from Smyth and a goal from Idowu, all coming in the second half, saw Mirren join Celtic as the only teams to have recorded wins over the weekend. Ayunga was withdrawn in the 63rd minute for Mandron.

In the Swedish Ettan, on Sunday, the Harambee Stars duo of Henry Meja and Frank Odhiambo managed to play in the entire game as AFC Eskilstuna went 2-1 down to hosts Hammarby Talang.
