Hillside Football Club, a team from Lodwar in Turkana County is the latest club to join the FKF Division One league after a successful merger with a former National Super League outfit.
The club has merged with Silibwet Leons FC from Bomet County who have ceased operations due to a lack of finances that saw them struggle in honouring away league matches during the 2023/24 season thus suffering an axe from the second tier to the Division One Zone B league.
Hillside FC, formed in 2012 takes Silibwet’s slot in the third-tier league and will participate in the FKF Division One Zone B in the coming 2024/25 season after an unsuccessful attempt in the FKF Division 2 Western Zone promotion playoffs whereby their direct promotion chance went to flames after falling 3-1 in the final to Soy United.
Following their union with Silibwet, Hillside becomes the first football club from the arid Turkana County to feature in the Division One league and they will host their home matches at Nakwemekwi Primary School grounds in Lodwar town.
They join Gucha Stars and Soy United who recently earned promotion to the FKF Division One Zone B after successful hunts in the playoffs from their respective zones. Also joining the fray is Hope Of Harvest Academy (HOHA FC) from Matayos, Busia who also recently entered to a merger with Gusii FC.
