Kenyan giants Gor Mahia were beaten 1-0 by EL Merreikh Bentiu in a CAF Champions League game staged at Juba Stadium, South Sudan on Sunday.
Gor were returning to the continental stage for the first time in two years and after holding their hosts to a goalless draw in the first half, Mohamed El Feji notched in the all-important goal in the 63rd minute.
The game also saw the return of Austin Odhiambo who has been heavily linked with a move away from the club having been inked with a move to Genk. The midfielder started on the bench but was introduced three minutes before they conceded.
El Merreikh’s slim advantage means that Gor will have to score two goals in the second leg with the hope that their opponents won’t get a goal in the tie if they are to qualify for the next round of the Qualifiers.
