Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga cemented his legacy at Al Duhail SC with a record-setting goal on Friday night. He took his tally to 121 goals across all competitions and became the club’s all-time top scorer.
This milestone, achieved in just three years, further solidifies Olunga’s impact not only in Qatar but also in the wider Asian football scene, where he remains Al Duhail’s leading scorer in the Asian Champions League.

The historic goal came during Al Duhail’s dominant 6-2 win over Al Shamal at the Al-Khwar Stadium. Olunga played a pivotal role throughout the match, adding a goal and 2 assists to guide his team to a convincing victory.
Al Duhail struck first through Lucas Verissimo’s opener in the 11th minute, and soon after, Olunga made his mark on the scoresheet. Racing onto an expertly placed pass from Luis Alberto, the Kenyan striker powered a left-footed shot past Senegalese goalkeeper Babacar Seck, extending the lead to 2-0.
While Olunga appeared poised to add another, an attempted clearance from Al Shamal defender Mohammed Musa inadvertently ended up in the net, pushing Al Duhail’s lead to 3-0. The hosts responded with a goal from Younes Belhanda, but Almoez Ali restored the cushion just before halftime, converting a penalty to make it 4-1.
The second half saw Al Duhail maintain control, with Alberto scoring shortly after the restart with a stunning strike that ricocheted off the post and into the net. Al Shamal’s Baghdad Bounedjah managed a late consolation goal, yet Olunga once again showcased his playmaking ability, assisting Almoez Ali for Al Duhail’s sixth and final goal.
With this win, Al Duhail now sits four points ahead of their closest rivals, Al Sadd, at the top of the Qatar Stars League table. Olunga’s stellar form this season, with eight goals in seven league matches, keeps him among the league’s top scorers, as he continues to fly the Kenyan flag high in Qatar.
