Days after three players from Singida Black Stars rescinded their citizenship and became Tanzanians, nine players from Tanzanian giants Simba Sports Club are also set to change their citizenship and become Tanzanians.

Speaking to Clouds Media, the club’s spokesperson Ahmed Ally confirmed the development, stating, “It’s true we’ve reached out to the relevant authorities for assistance on how our nine players can change their citizenship and become Tanzanians. This initiative comes from the players themselves, who wish to become Tanzanian citizens. Additionally, many foreign players from across Africa would like to join Simba SC, but the league’s restrictions on the number of foreign players make it challenging so with such a move it will make it easy for many of them.”

The spokesperson emphasized that the decision benefits both the club and the country, “If the nine players succeed in obtaining Tanzanian citizenship and well as you know we have 12 foreign players as a club, it will create room for us to sign an additional nine foreign players. This move also motivates others to consider becoming Tanzanians. It’s a win-win for everyone. Simba SC can strengthen its squad, and Tanzania will have more players eligible for the national team, giving coaches more options.”

While it isn’t clear which Simba players would want to change their nationalities, the three players from Singida Black Stars who have already made a similar move are Emmanuel Keyekeh from Ghana, Arthur Bada from Ivory Coast and Damaro Mohamedi from Guinea.
