Harambee Stars winger Adam Wilson played a pivotal role as The New Saints secured a 3-1 victory over Cardiff Met University, moving three points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier League.

The match, held at Park Hall, saw a fast start from the defending champions, with Wilson breaking the deadlock just two minutes into the game. Racing onto a well-weighted pass from Ryan Brobbel, Wilson controlled the ball with a deft first touch and fired past Cardiff Met’s goalkeeper, Absalom, from just inside the penalty area.

Despite the early goal, Cardiff Met responded strongly. In the 15th minute, former TNS player Lewis Rees set up Elliot Evans, who expertly beat Connor Roberts with a dummy before coolly finishing to equalise for Cardiff Met.

The New Saints almost regained the lead immediately, with Wilson coming close to a second, but his effort was denied by a superb save from Absalom. The teams went into halftime with the score locked at 1-1.

After the break, The New Saints took control. In the 53rd minute, a rebound from Dan Williams’ powerful shot found its way to Aramide Oteh, who slotted home his 14th goal of the season to put The New Saints back in front, 2-1.

The Saints continued to press, and in the 68th minute, Danny Davies sealed the victory, smashing a ball into the net from 12 yards out after some excellent play from Josh Pask. Cardiff Met had a few late opportunities, but it was The New Saints who held firm for a 3-1 win.

With the victory, The New Saints moved three points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier, now with seven consecutive wins under their belt.

Next up for the league leaders is a crucial top-of-the-table clash with Penybont at Park Hall on Saturday, February 8th.
