Gor Mahia through captain Philemon Otieno is confident that the team will perform better this season as they begin their title quest against Nzoia Sugar FC this Saturday.
The Kenyan Premier League giants have regressed in the past two seasons but Otieno feels that with most of their off-field issues sorted, they are ready to challenge again.
“I don’t think we have ‘died’ has largely reported by some people,” Otieno told Pepeta. “Our major undoing in the past year was mainly financial which I think has been sorted by our new sponsor. We are going to challenge for the title and it is noble that we hit the ground running starting this Saturday (against Nzoia).”

The Green Army is still on a transfer embargo and has been forced to use young players majorly picked from their youth side. While inexperience might prove to be costly in any competition, Otieno feels that the combination they have in the team will be enough to see them through.
“Its true we have young players in the team but then again a few of us have been playing at the top for some time. The mixture is good and I think the long preseason has built the understanding we need on the pitch and that would be key,” he added.
Gor comes up against Nzoia this Saturday at Nyayo Stadium with the game kicking off at 3 pm and Otieno knows how dangerous the team can be.
“They (Nzoia) are a good team and have a tendency of starting strongly. They have a good coach too and we will have to be at our best to beat them.”
