Tusker FC and Nzoia Sugar FC emerged victorious over KCB FC and Mathare United respectively in the FKF Premier League games staged on Thursday 22nd, 2022.
Tusker who has had a perfect start to the season knew the test that had waited for them since they had not beaten their Thursday opponents in their last four contests and the earlier proceedings pointed to another draw in waiting. With the cautious approach from both sides, it became hard to predict who was going to come on top until Saphan Oyugi popped up with the opener in the 34th minute; the former Kariobangi Sharks man towering past the KCB defence to head in a John Mwangi floated corner.

After the goal, Tusker had some momentum and should have doubled their lead before halftime with two brilliant chances but each went begging. First, it was Mwangi who delivered a cross to the box which was headed to the side netting by Humphrey Mieno before the latter turned provider for Zakayo who weaved his way through the opposition’s defence only to see his effort miss the target by a whisker.
The chances were to haunt them in additional time of the first half when Nicholas Kipkirui stole a back pass from the Tusker defence to beat the onrushing Patrick Matasi for the bankers’ equalizer.
Kipkirui was at it again two minutes after resumption as he forced Matasi to a brilliant save with coach Zedekiah Otieno deciding to make a double change minutes later in a bid to boost his attack. In came Michael Oduor and Derrick Otieno for John Mwangi and Henry Onyango but it was Tusker who was to take the lead minutes later. Isaac Kipyegon had been punched by Gabriel Andika in the KCB goal to the path of Mieno who returned a header for Deogracious Ojok who accepted the gift by nodding in his fourth of the season.
In another match of the day, Mathare United had a false start to the season after going 2-1 down to visiting Nzoia Sugar FC at Nairobi’s Utalii Grounds.
Nzoia took a 35th-minute lead through a Benard Munyendo penalty after Hassan Beja had been brought down in the Mathare United box before the Salim Babu side doubled their lead through Joseph Mwangi in the second half following a quick counterattack by the visitors. Douglas Kibet was to pull a goal back for the slum boys but it was a matter of too little too late.
