Gor Mahia held hosts AFC Leopards to a goalless draw in the 92nd Mashemeji Derby held at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Leopards came into the game hoping to break a seven-year wait for a win against their nemesis but the earlier exchanges gave a clue of how the match would pan out with both sides being too precautious in their approach.

The first half had half-decent chances mostly for home side Leopards with Gad Mathews saving calmly from both Ojo Olaniyi who was looking for his sixth goal of the season and Brian Wanyama whose long-range effort two minutes later did little to trouble the Gor Mahia keeper.

Wanyama however had different thoughts in the second half after pulling the first serious attempt of the half after forcing Mathews to a brilliant save for another fruitless corner. Musa Oundo who had received glowing tributes from fans on social media prior to the game was to shoot wayward 15 minutes from time but it was Jaffari Odeny who had the glorious chance in the game with ten minutes remaining on the clock.

The attacker got the better of Geoffrey Ochieng who had been brilliant for the visitors all afternoon at left back and squared the ball for Wanyama who forced Mathews to rush off his line to save the attempt after the Gor defence had gone to sleep.

It was a point gained for Gor who now moves to the second spot with 24 points; only three points below leaders Nzoia Sugar FC who have played two games more.
