Mathare United are out of the relegation zone for the first time this season after beating Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in a rescheduled FKF Premier League game staged on Wednesday at the Kasarani Annex.

Mathare was to take a 26th-minute lead from the penalty spot after Donald Ange had been brought down in the box by Timothy Ekhavi with referee Yassin Badir pointing to the spot; up stepped Ange himself to score his fifth goal of the season.

While Mathare was to maintain their lead until the halftime break, Mathew Kibiwott was to put Sharks leveled just two minutes after the resumption when he capitalized on some miscommunication in the visitors’ defence before, beating the keeper to the ball before slotting into the empty net.

Daniel Otieno however had other plans as he scored with six minutes remaining on the clock after heading in a throw-in by Brian Okeyo for what was his second goal in as many games.

The win takes Mathare to 16th place on the table with ten points with Wazito FC, who lost to Gor Mahia on Thursday, now the team taking their place in the relegation zone.

At the Mumias Complex, Vihiga Bullets’ winless streak was extended to seven games after losing 3-0 to Bidco United.

Henry Juma gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at halftime following his goal in the 38th minute with the Kakamega High School alumnus doubling his and Bidco’s lead nine minutes after the resumption. Ezekiel Okare, who had started the game on the bench, was to ensure the points were safe two minutes from time after scoring a third from the penalty spot.
