Gor Mahia head coach Johnny McKinstry believes his side deserved a penalty in their 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars in their week 16 FKF Premier League tie on Saturday.

Gor had taken the lead when Bonaventure Muchika diverted the ball in his own net and thought they had been handed a chance to double that lead minutes to the half time break when Benson Omala was brought down in the box but the striker was booked for diving much to the amazement of McKinstry.

“We scored a good goal and almost got another and I don’t know how it wasn’t a penalty on Omala towards the end of the first half.  He was fouled and the referee booked him for diving. When they look back at that incident I know they’ll realize they were wrong because it was a penalty,” McKinstry said in his post-match interview.

Asked about the game, the Irishman thought they deserved to win the game and pointed out that his side created better chances than Ulinzi who he described as physical.

“It was an extremely physical game and we had expected that from Ulinzi. We had to survive in the first ten minutes because they came really hard. In some ways we are disappointed to only draw the game because, outside the set pieces, Ulinzi didn’t create any real chances. That’s not to say we created a lot ourselves but we created three or four chances which I think were better in the game.

“We take the point because we cant win every game. Ulinzi (is a good side) and will take a lot of points from teams. It’s another point that keeps us on top of the table and we will just keep on pushing,” McKinstry added.

Gor are two points clear of second-placed Nzoia Sugar who have played a game more.’
