Of the 30 players called by Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat in his latest team to prepare for a friendly against Iran later this month, 19 were local based players.
There has been an ongoing debate among local football fans who have accused Firat of omitting players they felt deserved a chance in the team. While this has been ongoing, credit has been given to the coach for handing first call-ups to Nzoia Sugar FC duo of Joseph Mwangi and Hasan Beja following their team’s sterling outing in the first leg of the FKF Premier League season.

While Nzoia will be represented by two players in the latest team, Police FC has the highest number of players in the latest squad after Firat picked five of their players. The next team with the highest number of players in the team is Bandari with three with AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and KCB FC each contributing two players. Mathare United, Kakamega Homeboyz and Tusker FC each gave one player to the latest team.
The local players are expected to report to camp on Friday, March 17, 2023, to begin preparing for the match.
