Mathare United head coach Leonard Odipo believes their National Super League win over Nairobi United FC on Wednesday was in line with their season’s aims.
United who were relegated from the FKF Premier League last season currently stands on top of the country’s second tier and according to Odipo, the midweek win boosted their morale in their quest to bounce back immediately to the top.

“We expected a tough game (against Nairobi United) because both teams are good teams,” Odipo said. “We all wanted to win this game but we carried the day today (on Wednesday) It is an important win because it boosts our quest to return to the top flight.”
Speaking about the game, Odipo who has been appointed as the new head coach of the Kenya U15 side added: “Both goals were from the training ground so I am happy that the things we teach are being implemented in games. We lost concentration at some points in the game but they were normal lapses. We had our mistakes too in the game and ours is to work on them so that we can even be better in our next assignments.”
The win saw Mathare open the gap between them and second-placed Kisumu Allstars to four points with both teams having played nine games in the season.
