Gor Mahia opened a ten-point gap at the top of the Football Kenya Premier League table following their 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday evening.
Sharks had come into the game on the back of a draw against Murang’a Seal and needed the points to boost their position in the league. They had everything going on as planned but couldn’t just get the elusive pass to break the Gor Mahia rearguard that had conceded only seven goals this season.

There was nothing major to write home in the first half apart from Mahia’s early substitution where they were forced to throw in Joshua Onyango for the inured Sylvester Owino. A triple change was to be pulled by coach Jonhy McKnistry in the second half with Chris Ochieng, Ernest Wendo and Boniface Omondi coming on for Bryson Wangai, Lawrence Juma, and Patrick Sibomana.
It was Chris Ochieng who popped with the winner in the last minute of the game with the win seeing K’Ogalo hit the 40 points mark.
In another game of the day, hosts Kakamega Homeboyz missed a penalty as they were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Bandari FC.
The Patrick Odhiambo-coached side had won a 74th-minute penalty when Ambrose Sifuna was brought down in the box. Up stepped Mosses Shummah to increase his goal tally of the season but keeper Joseph Ochuka had other ideas as the Harambee Stars shot stopper saved the resultant kick to earn his side a point.
The draw saw Bandari move to second on the log with 30 points with Homeboyz moving to sixth on 27 points.
