Darius Msagha goal seven minutes from time was all Sofapaka FC needed to beat Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match staged at the Machakos Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Sofapaka had come to the game on a back of a drubbing by Tusker and after losing 5-0 to the same opponents in the first leg, coach Zedekiah Otieno had to conjure a plan to stop an embarrassment.

Otieno had handed debits to Victor Odhiamno, Rodgers Kipkemboi, Nelson Bwakali, and Victor Augo and despite failing to score in the first half, they saved the best for the last with Msagha popping up with the winner that sends the club to 17th place.

It was Sofapaka’s sixth win of the season and the second under coach Zico who took over the reins of the club a fortnight ago.

The loss though was Homeboyz’ fifth on the tot with the club failing to score in those five games and they will hope for a change of fortunes as they incorporate new signings including keeper Simon Maaka whom they roped from Sofapaka; the shot-stopper having been on the visitors’ bench in today’s match.

The sorry form sees Homeboyz remain at position seven on the table with 28 points and might find themselves in eighth position should Police FC win their weekend game.
