Naivas FC head coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi has termed promotion talks about his team to the Kenyan top flight as premature.
Naivas currently leads the National Super League (NSL) table with 46 points, three above second-placed Mathare United, and while they’ve been earmarked as one of the favorites to gain promotion to the FKF Premier League, Omondi is taking each game at a time.

“Talking about promotion (right now) is still premature. I’m solely concentrating on our season’s targets. The targets are based on the games we are to win and the points we should pick in this leg; that’s what we are after. And if we can achieve those targets then we will be ready to start talking about promotion,” Korea said after they thumped Migori Youth in round 21 of action.
Omondi revealed that he felt his charges had pressure (before they clashed with Migori) owing to the expectation from their fans and that had infiltrated into his side after they failed to win their first two games of the second leg.
“It was a very important win because we had only picked a point in our last two games. You could feel they had some tension in the earlier stages of the game but after scoring the first goal, the pressure was reduced and they did well in getting the other goals. We could have scored like three goals in the first 15 minutes but they had the tension.
“We had not started the second leg well and when we looked at the table, we were placed second last with just a point because a lot of teams have started brilliantly in this leg. We are not using the first leg table, we have started counting our points afresh and we want to be at par with the top teams or even lead the second leg table at the end of the campaign,” he added.
Things don’t get easier for Korea and the team as they will be traveling to Kisumu next weekend to face Kisumu Allstars who have promotion ambitions too.
