Defender Gideon Were has expressed his delight after making his long-awaited debut for FKF Premier League giants AFC Leopards.

Were partnered with Kennedy Owino in the Leopards’ defence as they emerged 1-0 winners over Posta Rangers; the game being his first since being part of the 19 new players that the club roped in at the start of the season.

Were who joined from Mathare United admitted to being relieved after representing Leopards and is already looking for more playing time starting with this weekend’s derby against arch-rivals Gor Mahia.

“I’m relieved. It has been such a long wait to finally play, and I am really hungry for more. Our match against Posta was a tough one against a tough opponent. We got the important big three points. We go again on this Sunday against our arch rivals Gor Mahia in the #MashemejiDerby,” Were is quoted by the club’s social pages.

Leopards have found it hard to beat their rivals in recent derbies but go into the tie after some impressive display that has seen them rise from the bottom half of the table to 8th position.

Gor still leads the league with 54 points after 26 games; 16 points above their Sunday rivals.
