Gor Mahia were finally crowned the FKF Premier League Champions after their 4-3 win over Bidco United in the final day of the season on Sunday 23rd June 2024.
While they had won the title much earlier, the Federation planned for the trophy presentation on Sunday at Kenyatta Stadium Machakos in a day that also saw coach Johnny McKinstry wave goodbye to the team as he shifts his attention to the Gambia national team which he has already led in two games.
In the final game of the season, Benson Omalla scored a quickfire double in a span of four minutes though Bidco rallied back to restore parity with John Kelwish John grabbing a brace of his own. Mark Shaban then restored Gor’s lead seven minutes from time with Rooney Onyango making the points safe but Jacob Onyango made the scoreline respectable with a late goal for Bidco.
In another game, Muhoroni Youth will join Nzoia Sugar FC in the National Super League following their 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers. Sofapaka will be participating in the promotion/relegation playoff where they will play either Naivas FC or Nairobi United after their 3-1 win over Nzoia.
The first leg of the playoff will be on Saturday, July 6, 2024, and the second leg on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
In the golden boot race, Omalla emerged top with 19 goals, while Tito Okello and John Mark Makwatta tied in second position with 16 goals.
