FKF Premier League Champions Gor Mahia has appointed Brazilian Leo Neiva as their new head coach the club has announced.

A statement from the club noted; “Leo Neiva from Brazil is our new head coach; the ex-Vipers, Young Africans and Al-Merrikh coach will be assisted by our former player and coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam.”

Leiva arrives at the club to replace Johnny McKinstry who left the club last month to take over the reigns of the Gambia national team where he has already overseen two games in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

The Brazilian was in charge of Ugandan giants Vipers for six months but parted ways with the club at the end of last year. Under him, Vipers witnessed a failed CAF Champions League campaign as they were eliminated at the first preliminary stage by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy and it remains to be seen how he will cope with the competition’s demands now that Gor will be returning to the competition.

The tactician has been around the African continent, something Gor Mahia was looking in McKinstry’s replacement, having been in charge of Platinum Stars in South Africa, Young Africans of Tanzania and Al Merrikh SC.

After hanging up his boots where he represented Fluminense FC futsal team, Bonsucesso FC, Jacarepaguá FC and Juventude-RS, the Brazilian started his coaching career as an assistant coach for América FC (Rio de Janeiro) in 2007.

The Brazilian will be assisted by the current Sofapaka FC head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and the current club assistant coach Michael Nam.
