2010 Kenyan Premier League champions Ulinzi Stars FC have parted ways with their head coach Anthony “Modo” Kimani.

The former Harambee Stars captain joined Ulinzi in August 2023 before the start of the 2023/24 campaign and leaves after serving for only a season.

In a statement released by the club on their social handles, Ulinzi said: “Ulinzi wishes to part ways with coach Anthony Kimani. Ulinzi wishes to express its gratitude to Anthony Kimani for his contribution to the club during his tenure as head coach. Anthony Kimani will forever be part of the Ulinzi family and the club wishes him all of the very best in his future endeavours”, the club stated.

On his part, the ex-Mathare United and AFC Leopards defender has thanked the four-time Kenyan champions for granting him an opportunity to lead the club.

“I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude and admiration for each of every one of you. This past season has been an incredible journey with challenges, triumphs and countless memories that I will cherish forever. While my time here has been brief, the connections and experiences we’ve shared will stay with me always. I believe in this team’s potential and am confident that great things lie ahead for all of you. I wish you all continued success and happiness both on and off the field,” Kimani opined.

In his only season with the club, Kimani led Ulinzi to a 12th-place finish after 10 wins, 9 draws and 15 defeats; an outing that is believed to have cost him his job.

There are coaches who are already being linked with the vacant position with former club boss Dunston Nyaudo said to be the front-runner in the race to replace Kimani. Nyaudo has previously managed Ulinzi in 2018.
