New Gor Mahia head coach Leonardo Neiva has urged the club fans to be patient after finishing winless in the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup competition.
Neiva, who has been with the team for two weeks, started his tenure in charge of the Kenyan giants with a 2-1 loss against Red Arrows, drew with Ali Sabieh before finishing the campaign with a 2-0 loss to Sudan’s Al Hilal.

The outing has got some fans on social media outraged with a section questioning his tactics. The Brazilian however insisted that he wasn’t in the tournament to look for results but to gauge the type of players he has in preparations for CAF Champions League assignment.
“The game today had a good atmosphere,” Neiva said after their last group game against Al Hilal. “We didn’t come in the tournament to win but to prepare the boys for the CAF Champions League. This was like a preseason to us and they have come against some good teams who are at the level of the teams we will be meeting in the CAF competition.
“We are going to Nigeria to continue with the preparations but we can’t change overnight. I have been here for two weeks and I’m still learning the players. I want to urge the fans to be patient. We should suffer now and use the games as a lesson for our future assignments.”
Gor has been paired against Al Merrreikh in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League and will meet Al Ahly in the last qualifying round should they overcome their first hurdle.
