Football Kenya Federation Premier League giants Gor Mahia have confirmed that their Community Shield opener against Kenya Police FC has been cancelled.
Gor were scheduled to take on Police on August 11th 2024 at the Ulinzi Complex to mark the start of the 2024/25 football season in the country but the game won’t take place due to the unavailability of venues.

In a communication sent to newsrooms on Tuesday, Gor noted,β The eagerly anticipated season opener (Community Shield Cup) match between Gor Mahia and Police FC has been cancelled.
βIt was affirmed in a communication sent to both teams by Mr. Mike Kamure, the Football Kenya Federation officer overseeing Integrity, National Teams Projects and FKF-PL. The Federation expressed deep regret at the situation, stating that they have been unable to find a suitable stadium to host the match.β
Gor and Police won the league and Cup titles respectively last season and will be representing the nation in CAF assignments this season; the teams having already started their preseason preparations towards the assignments.
In the communication, Gor further stated that they will continue with their preparations ahead of their Preliminary Round CAF Champions League clash against El-Merriekh of South Sudan set for next week.
There is a possibility too of the club playing a friendly game against Fountain Gate FC on Tanzanite Day which falls on Friday 9th August, 2024.
