Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba has led Highway Secondary School to the National Secondary School Football title following their 3-2 win over Musingu High in post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time in a game staged at Gusii Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Musingu had taken an 11th-minute lead in the game through Elvis Ochieng but Highway responded through Dan Oloo who restored parity before the break and despite forays from both sides, the second half wasn’t to bear any goal.

Musingu had been given an advantage heading into extra time when Highway captain Osotsi was to receive his marching orders for a second bookable offence but they failed to capitalize on that advantage after they were forced into penalties.

In the shootout, Musingu went first with Kevin Manani hitting the crossbar. Highway was to score through Aroko, Luis Ochieng and Tony Ochieng. Musingu’s Stanley Nelson and Harrison Amalemba had given their side some hope after Fredrick Onyango’s kick had been saved but Valentine Isalambo’s kick was saved to hand Highway the title.

Highway and Musingu will be joined in the East Africa Championship by St. Joseph Boys after they beat Kirangari 6-0 in the third-place playoff staged earlier in the day.

In the Girls’ category, Butere Girls defended their title following their 2-0 win over Nyakach Girls in the finals.

St. Joseph Girls will be the team to join Nyakach and Butere in the Regional competition following their third-place finish after they beat Kombani 1-0.
