Appearing before Justice Alexander Muteti, the suspects did not enter pleas, as their case was deferred pending the submission of their mental assessment reports.
The prosecution confirmed that both Okoth and Aoko had undergone medical examinations, and the court scheduled their next appearance for September 11, 2024, when they are expected to plead to the charges.
The court session also saw the Investigating Officer (I.O), who had been summoned, refute allegations that he had refused to release personal items belonging to Okoth. During the arrest, the I.O. had recovered a Samsung mobile phone, a wallet containing two identification cards, and an NHIF card, all of which were documented in an inventory signed by the suspect.
Following this clarification, Justice Muteti ordered the I.O. to return the mobile phone to Okoth as per a post on the media pages of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya.
In addition to directing the release of the phone, the judge advised the I.O. to lodge a formal complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) if he had any grievances regarding the conduct of the investigation.
Collins Okoth, a footballer celebrated for his robust playing style and his contribution to several Kenyan Premier League clubs, now faces a daunting legal battle as he remains in police custody at the Industrial Area Remand Prison. His co-accused, Silvia Aoko Odhiambo, is being held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.
