AFC Leopards’ goalkeeper Levis Opiyo has firmly denied any involvement in match-fixing in recent Mashemeji Derbies.

There were allegations about the player from the club fans that he was fixing games owing to his recent poor outings in the game against their archrivals Gor Mahia; a club he played for before.

Speaking on the TikiTaka Show, Opiyo set the record straight, emphasizing his professionalism and his family’s strong stance against betting.

“In our family, no one bets—my sisters, brothers, and parents don’t do it, and I won’t be the first. I have my own money. Betting isn’t part of us. Even if you ask my dad, he’ll tell you we don’t do that,” he said.

Addressing the allegations, Opiyo revealed that he has encountered individuals who approach players with match-fixing offers, often disguised as agents. However, he maintains a professional stance.

“I’ve come across those people who come in the form of agents, asking to meet me. I meet them, but I always tell them I’m a professional and can’t engage in such things,” he explained.

Opiyo also stressed that match-fixing in clubs as historic as AFC Leopards or Gor Mahia is not feasible, as it would lead to severe consequences from the passionate fanbases.

“What people don’t realise is that you can’t fix a match for Gor Mahia or AFC Leopards—you’d be finished. The fans would kill you. That’s why these matches are played fairly in good stadia,” he added.

Opiyo dismissed the match-fixing claims against him as baseless rumours, attributing them to disgruntled fans.

“These match-fixing allegations are just propaganda from fans. I only play my part as a goalkeeper, and in football, you have good and bad days,” he concluded.
