Mathare United may have endured a tough 4-0 loss to defending champions Gor Mahia on Saturday but their young defender Hakim Msami is confident the team will bounce back from the setback.
Making his debut in the encounter, the former Mombasa Elite defender played the full minutes, a match he started as a centre-back but was later deployed as a full-back.

“As players, we can’t afford to drop points now. In the next match, we’ll be back strong as we have time [FIFA international break] to rectify our mistakes. We’ll be competitive in the next match,” he stated.
The international break comes at a crucial time for Mathare United, which has yet to win a league match in its four outings so far, with two losses and two draws.
Msami hopes the team will use this break to correct their mistakes and return more focused. Speaking on his debut, Msami expressed pride in earning a spot in the starting eleven.
“I feel good the coach trusted me to be in the starting line-up. I was confident, having trained the whole week, and I was ready for the match. Unfortunately, the result wasn’t on our side,” he added.
Mathare United head coach John Kamau was full of praise for the young defender, highlighting his resilience and composure against a Gor Mahia side fresh from their CAF Champions League campaign.
“Hakim, in particular, was marvellous against Gor Mahia, a club that’s just from the CAF Champions League, very marvellous,” Kamau remarked.
