Outgoing Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa is bullish ahead of the football election as he tabled his papers to the Electoral Board on Monday.

Mwendwa will be vying as a Vice President with her current deputy Doris Petra tasked with flying their flag in a Presidential contest that has attracted more than seven candidates.

After presenting their nomination papers on Monday evening, Mwendwa pointed to the overwhelming support they’ve garnered, citing their stronghold on the federation’s structure.

“We already have 12 NEC members and 7 unopposed branches, so how can we lose?” Mwendwa stated confidently.

While many feel that Petra has been instilled as a decoy to allow Mwednwa to continue running the Federation business, the Kariobangi Sharks owner had a different view stating that his move to be a deputy is meant to demonstrate the value of teamwork over individual ambition.

“Me deputizing Petra is to show Kenyans that it’s not always a must to fight for the top seat. If you have a good team, being the second or third in command is okay, so long as you have a good team,” Mwendwa added.

The outgoing FKF President also took a jab at his opponents, urging them to focus on securing votes rather than pursuing legal battles.

“Let people stop going to court and look for votes. They’ve been spending too much time in courts instead of looking for votes, and that’s why we have all of the votes,” he concluded.

Mwendwa and Petra have been at the helm of the Football Kenya Federation since 2016 and this will be the third time the duo are going for the top seat having won it in 2016 and 2020.
