Shabana FC and Kariobangi Sharks played out toa 1-1 draw at Dandora Stadium in a closely contested FKF Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Both teams were eager for three points, with Shabana seeking their first win of the season, while Kariobangi Sharks aimed to build on their impressive start after falling to Bidco United in the midweek fixture.

Shabana came into the match on the back of a 1-0 home loss to Sofapaka in a midweek fixture, a defeat that saw head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo suspended. In his absence, goalkeeping coach David Juma stepped in as acting head coach, with Peter Ogechi assisting him.

Both teams shared possession evenly in the opening half, but Shabana looked more threatening, with Bryan Michira and Darius Msagha creating chances. In the 18th minute, Kariobangi Sharks’ Keith Imbali saw his free kick deflected for a corner.

Sharks’ goalkeeper, Sebastian Wekesa, proved instrumental, making key saves to keep the game level. In the 37th minute, he denied Shabana’s Christopher Raila from close range, while at the other end, Kariobangi Sharks’ Lennox Kimani missed a golden one-on-one opportunity against Shabana’s Stephen Ochieng just before halftime. The teams went into the break locked at 0-0

In the 58th minute, Shabana’s persistence paid off when Bryan Michira scored, thanks to an assist from Msagha, who skillfully held off Sharks’ defenders before setting up Michira for the opener.

However, Sharks were quick to respond. A penalty was awarded in the 67th minute when Steve Mbulere was brought down in the box. Keith Imbali confidently converted from the spot, bringing the score to 1-1.

Both sides pushed for a winning goal, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The result leaves Shabana still in search of their first league win this season after five matches, with two games in hand. Kariobangi Sharks, meanwhile, settled for their third draw of the season and now sit second on the table with 12 points from seven games.
