Departing Gor Mahia head coach Martins Neiva has revealed reasons why he left the FKF Premier League giants.

The Brazilian was sacked earlier this week after a spate of poor results but taking to his social media pages on Thursday, Neiva singled out club politics and security concerns as some of the key reasons why he had to leave.

“I am here to inform you that I am leaving the club mainly because of my safety and physical integrity,” he said in a post. “It’s 2024 and unfortunately this still happens in football! Political issues, election year and other questions that directly interfere with our everyday lives.”

The former Vipers tactician intimated in the post that he had ‘less time’ to be gauged in the team having only been in charge of six league games.

“There have been six Premier League games with two wins, two draws and two defeats. Apart from the qualification to the CAF Champions League second round where we were knocked out by Egyptian Giants Al Ahly.

“I wish Gor Mahia good luck and, special thanks to chairman Ambrose Rachier, people who supported me and gave me the best treatment possible during my stay in Kenya,” he concluded.

The departure of the tactician leaves Gor Mahia with Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam with the task of leading the club in the next games starting with the Mashemeji Derby next week.
