Duncan Omala is aiming to make the Kenya Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations squad following his brilliant to the National Super League (NSL) season.

Omala has so far scored five goals for Nairobi United. Despite being dropped from the squad that ensured Kenya qualified for the continental showpiece, he is confident of making the AFCON squad if he can maintain his goalscoring form.

“I was overjoyed to see the team qualify, and it fills me with pride that those who made it to the final squad ensured we secured a spot in next year’s tournament. I won’t lie; I was disappointed not to make the final squad, but that’s part of football,” Omala admitted.

“For now, I’m focused on giving my best for Nairobi United in the National Super League. I hope my performances catch the attention of the national team coaches again, and I get another call-up. When that opportunity comes, I’ll work even harder to ensure I make it to the AFCON U20 tournament.”

The youngest brother of Benson Omala has been a key figure for his team, which currently sits second in the nation’s second tier. He credits the challenges he has faced in the highly competitive league.

“Playing in the National Super League has toughened me. When I joined, I have to admit I was weak, and it was easy for opponents to dispossess me. But now, I’ve adapted, and it’s making me stronger. I know this experience is preparing me for more competitive leagues that I might play in the future,” he added.

The striker further stated that he aimed to score ten goals in the first half of his debut season in the NSL and is working hard to achieve that goal.

“It’s been a great start to the league for me. My target this season was to score 10 goals by mid-season, and I’m working towards that,” he added.

The former ABM Foot Academy will be hoping to build on the momentum starting with their next game against 3K FC this weekend.
