Round 9 Review

The FKF Premier League entered its ninth round with KCB FC still maintaining their place at the top of the table.

The Patrick Odhiambo-coached side has only tasted one defeat this season and capped round nine with a hard-fought win over Talanta but we take a look at the major talking points in round Nine.

Odemba joins history books after leading Police FC

Coach Beldine Odemba became the second female coach to lead an FKF Premier League after guiding Kenya Police FC to a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks.

Police’ managerial position fell vacant after the club’s management decided to send Salim Babu and his backroom staff home leaving them with no choice but to pick Odemba, who leads their women’s team, to guide the club in league games.

Odemba became the second woman to lead a men’s team in the Kenyan top flight after Jackline Juma, who has been in charge of FC Talanta from the start of the season and who went 2-1 down to KCB FC on the same day.

Golden Boot race heats up

The Golden Boot race this season is proving to be an enticing one with Tusker FC’s Ryan Ogam and KCB’s Kalif Kahiro both scoring over the weekend to take their tally to six each in the season.

Kahiro scored the opener in their win over FC Talanta while Ogam notched the only goal to help Tusker return to winnings ways against Nairobi City Stars; both players having received a call-up to the Harambee Stars team in the last FIFA International break.

Newbies continue to shine

Mara Sugar FC and Mathare United are proving to be a match to the established teams having recorded some positive results in recent games.

In week nine, Mathare recorded their third win on the trot to move fourth in the league table after beating Posta Rangers 2-0 with Mara maintaining their unbeaten home record after coming from a goal down to hold Sofapaka FC in a game that saw both benches boil with temper following referee’s decisions that they thought they didn’t favour them.

Mara are still placed second in the league with 16 points, just four points below leaders KCB with Mathare now on 14 points following their fourth win of the season
