AFC Leopards went 2-1 down to Shabana FC in an FKF Premier League staged at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday 27th November, 2024.

Having been given a three-week rest following the postponement of the Mashemeji Derby, there was a feeling that Thomas Trucha and his charges had prepared well having struggled to get results in recent games.

Leopards were on a four-game winless streak having lost to Murang’a Seal and Ulinzi Stars and recording draws against Kariobangi Sharks and Mara Sugar.

With boss Trucha under pressure, he made a few changes in the starting team where keeper Humphrey Katasi was given a rare start as Vinctor Omune, Masaba, Oundo and Owino were drafted back into the starting team.

The changes seem not to have deterred the hosts who enjoyed a lion’s share of possession in the earlier proceedings with their efforts being rewarded in the 34th minute when Mathew Tegisi looped the ball for Bryan Michira who nodded past Katasi.

Even before Leopards could settle, Michira was at it again when he doubled his and the hosts tally but Brian Munyendo pulled a goal back for the visitors in additional time of the first half to give Leopards a reprieve heading into the break.

The second half was to bear no goals with the game having to be stopped five minutes from time due to the impounding rain. After the rains went down, the game was resumed but Shabana held on for a win that propelled them to seventh on the table.
