FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia reduced the gap between them and leaders KCB to ten points following their 2-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz on Wednesday.

It was the first game were playing after parting ways with head coach Neiva following a spate of poor results. The defending Champions had not won any of their last four games and had seen their clash against rivals AFC Leopards postponed due to lack of a suitable venue.

The team was led by assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno who has been in charge of the team on an interim basis as they look for a permanent head coach.

The start to the game was expected to be a tough affair with Homeboyz, under Francis Baraza who was appointed last month, doing all they can to stop their hosts from penetrating their defence at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Despite their resolute defending, Homeboyz’s rearguard was to be breached in the 34th minute when Boniface Omondi gave Gor the lead after being put through by Ronney Onyango as the hosts raced to a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Homeboyz came back in the second half as the better side and deserved to at least get a point but their efforts were deflated ten minutes from time when Andrew Murunga received his marching orders; an advantage that Gor Mahia utilized well by notching in a second in stoppage time through Brian Wangai.

The win sees Gor Mahia close the gap between them and leaders KCB to ten points having played three games less than their title challengers.
