Sofapaka head coach Robert Matano has dismissed ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Kenya Police FC.
Speaking after their loss to Murang’a Seal on Thursday, the experienced tactician underlined his focus on preparing for Sofapaka’s upcoming fixtures, labelling the transfer rumors as mere speculation.

“I’m still the Sofapaka head coach. Where you see me is where I am currently. Those rumours will always be rumours. My focus is now on the next match,” Matano said firmly.
Reports have been rife that Kenya Police FC, who recently parted ways with their entire technical bench, are eyeing Matano as a potential replacement. However, no formal communication has been made between the two clubs, according to Sofapaka CEO Ronald Okoth.
In an interview with Mozzart Sports, Okoth confirmed that while the rumours have reached his ears, there has been no official approach from Kenya Police FC regarding Matano. He also stated that any potential move would depend on meeting Sofapaka’s terms, as Matano still has a year left on his contract.
“They haven’t reached out officially, but I’ve heard rumours that they are interested in our coach. So far, no formal talks have occurred, so it remains just a rumour,” Okoth said. “However, if they reach out and meet our demands, we’ll talk. Matano has a running contract for the next year, and if a club wants him, they will have to buy it. For now, he remains our coach until there are any new developments.”
Sofapaka fans can now rest assured that Matano will be in charge as the team prepares for their next challenge on the pitch. Whether Kenya Police FC will formalize their interest remains to be seen, but Sofapaka is clear that any negotiations will hinge on their demands being met.
