Gor Mahia inched closer to the top of the FKF Premier League following their 2-0 win over Mara Sugar FC in a clash staged at the Raila Odinga Stadium on Saturday.
Having beaten Kakamega Homeboyz in their midweek game in what was his first game in charge of the team, Gor Mahia stand-in coach Zedekiah Otieno made no changes for the Saturday tie in what was a contrast to their hosts who made three changes where Robert Obaga was handed his first top-flight start.

Mara has been a hard nut to crack at home this season and they gave Gor Mahia all the problems they could. Having increased the intensity in the earlier proceedings, keeper Gad Mathews was called to save Gor when the home team were in a raid.
The first half was to bear no goals and with Mara Sugar standing their ground with all signs pointing to a draw, Austin Odhiambo popped up with the opener in the dying minutes of the game after being put through by Ronney Onyango before Gideon Bendeka, who had come from the bench, securing the points in stoppage time after capitalizing on some poor defending from the hosts.
The win moves Gor to fifth on the table with 14 points, just eight points below leaders KCB FC who were held to a goalless draw by Bidco United on the same day; Gor having played three games less than the league leaders.
Earlier in the day, FC Talanta and Posta Rangers fought to a goalless draw in a clash staged at the Dandora Stadium.
