In a statement shared on his Facebook handle, the former AFC Leopards manager has addressed delegates directly, acknowledging their pivotal role as “stewards of the game” and reminding them that their choices will influence the direction of Kenyan football for years to come.
In his post, Selebwa outlined four key pillars that he believes should guide the delegates’ decision-making process. They include;
- Competence and Consistency
“Elect individuals who have demonstrated exceptional skill and an unwavering commitment to fair play,” he wrote. Selebwa stressed the importance of leaders who can uphold the highest standards of football management and governance.
2. Experience and Knowledge
He emphasized the value of electing officials with a deep understanding of the sport. “Consider those with a deep understanding of the rules and nuances of the game,” he added, pointing to the need for seasoned leadership.
3. Integrity and Impartiality
Selebwa called for ethical leadership, urging delegates to select individuals who embody fairness and impartiality. “Ensure that elected officials embody the highest ethical standards, fostering trust among all stakeholders,” he stated.
4. Development and Diversity
Highlighting the need for inclusivity, Selebwa urged delegates to prioritize growth and representation. “Encourage opportunities for growth and inclusion, ensuring the presiding community represents the broader football world,” he remarked.
In his closing remarks, he implored them to approach their role with diligence and a focus on excellence. “Your decisions have a lasting impact on the game we all love. Please approach this responsibility with diligence and a clear focus on excellence,” he said.
The FKF elections come at a critical juncture for Kenyan football a sport that’s marred with challenges from a top-flight league with no sponsors, a Women’s league with zero investment in it to lower-tier clubs paying referees to officiate their games. The most loved sport is in dire need of visionary leadership that can steer it back to stability and growth.
Selebwa appeals for the election of leaders who will prioritize transparency, fairness, and the development of football from the grassroots to the elite levels.
