Nairobi City Stars Head Coach Leonard Odipo has voiced his concerns ahead of tomorrow’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Presidential Elections, the former Mathare United head coach is calling on delegates to vote for a new direction in Kenyan football.
Through a message shared on his social media, Odipo has highlighted the challenges plaguing the game and the need for transformative leadership.
In his post, Coach Odipo criticized the current regime, where key stakeholders in the sport—coaches, referees, and players—continue to suffer due to financial neglect and systemic inefficiencies. He pointed out that coach educators remain unpaid, referees face financial hardships contributing to match-fixing, and junior national team players and staff have been left uncompensated for their efforts, citing the U15 team as an example since 2023.
“Status quo means the coaches’ educators will continue educating coaches without being paid, and life goes on,” he wrote, adding, “Our leagues shall continue being unattractive to sponsors, and most teams will dish out walkovers in lower tiers.”
Odipo has called on the delegates to vote for a fresh start, emphasizing that Kenyan football needs a strategic overhaul to address its persistent issues. He described the election as a choice between perpetuating the current struggles or embracing a vision for progress and prosperity.
“A new beginning means we re-strategize and redesign our path to better tidings ahead,” he stated, urging the decision-makers to pull Kenyan football out of its current challenges and lead it toward a brighter future.
The FKF Presidential Elections comes at a critical juncture, with stakeholders across the sport yearning for sustainable solutions to the problems that have hindered growth. Odipo’s message is a strong reminder of the impact that leadership can have on the trajectory of football in the country.
As the delegates head to the polls, the question remains: will they choose to maintain the status quo or pave the way for transformative change?
