Nairobi City Stars are poised to appoint Salim Babu as their new head coach following the departure of Nicholas Muyoti.

Muyoti left the club on Saturday after losing to bottom-placed Posta Rangers FC with the club releasing a statement on the same.

“The management can confirm that Muyoti handed in the request to exit the club immediately after a game against Posta Rangers played on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos in which City Stars let go a 1-0 lead to fall 2-1,” a statement from the club noted.

“As a team, we hoped to improve on our performance from last season but, even after putting in the good fight, results have not been very positive,” Muyoti added. “After lots of soul searching and consultations, I requested the management to allow me to step down and they have since granted me my wish. We have journeyed together over the years and I wish the team the very best going forward,” said the CAF ‘B’ licensed coach.

The move has seen the club move swiftly in getting a new manager in charge with Babu, who has been out of club work since November 2024 after parting ways with Police FC, said to be the front runner for the job.

Other reports have linked Leonard Odipo with the work with others indicating that former City Stars midfielder Peter ‘Pinchez’ Opiyo was also considered but he doesn’t have the required papers to lead a top-flight team.

In his tenure at City Stars, Muyoti handed no less than 24 players their premier league debuts and led the club to two top-six finishes across the last three seasons. He led the team across 116 league games since arriving at the club from Kakamega Homeboyz in 2021.
