Posta Rangers may be languishing at the bottom of the league table with just 17 points from 19 matches, but Assistant Coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi remains optimistic about their chances of avoiding relegation.

Despite a tough season and the 2-1 loss to Gor Mahia at Dandora Stadium, Omondi insists that the team is showing signs of improvement and will fight until the very end.

In the match against Gor Mahia, the Mailmen fought valiantly, equalizing late in the second half through Felix Oluoch after Gedeon Bendeka’s earlier goal had given the defending champions the lead. However, it was a dramatic last-minute goal from Alphonse Omija that sealed the victory for Gor Mahia.

The former Mathare United Coach, however, sees the bigger picture from recent matches.

“There are promising signs that we can survive. If you look at how we play in every match, we’ve been scoring goals. The only area we need to improve on is how we are conceding. If we can tighten up defensively, then we’ll start getting points.”

He added, “Take today’s match against Gor Mahia, for example. Yes, they are a big side, but we went toe-to-toe with them. If you saw their fans at the final whistle they were celebrating as if they’d won the league. That’s a sign that we are not pushovers in this league, and we won’t be.”

Omondi’s words reflect a renewed sense of determination within the squad having roped in Head Coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo who is expected to help the team remain in the top flight having done the same with Shabana in the previous season, despite the challenging circumstances.

With more focus on improving their defence, Posta Rangers will be looking to build on the positives and secure the vital points needed to climb out of the relegation zone.
