The FKF Premier League is shaping up nicely with Kenya Police FC still leading the pile with Tusker FC not giving them a breathing space.

Gor Mahia is not far away following their win over Posta Rangers but Posta Rangers, Bidco United and Nairobi City Stars have been the struggling teams this season as they seek to maintain their top-flight status. Here are the major talking points of the week.

Sofapaka stops Police FC surge

Sofapaka FC denied the Police a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after holding them to a 1-1 draw over the weekend.

Sofapaka had taken a half-time lead through Donato Okello and when they were destined for important three points, Police rescued a point through Brian Okoth a minute to full-time.

The draw still leaves Police at the top with 37 points, the same number of points as second-placed Tusker FC who were held to a goalless draw by KCB FC in the same round.

Gor Mahia maintains temp with Posta Rangers win

Gor Mahia had defender Alphonse Omija to thank as his stoppage-time strike helped the club to a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Posta Rangers.

Before the game, the club fans had called for the sacking of head coach Zedekiah Otieno and earlier proceedings showed a team that was still struggling to understand their coach. With the first half ending goalless, Gor took the lead through Gideon Bendeka in the 72nd minute but Felix Oluoch threatened to spoil the party for the men in green when he popped up with the equalizer six minutes from time but Omija came to Gor’s rescue deep in stoppage time.

The win has Gor sitting third on the table with 31 points, six points below leaders Police even though they have played a gem less than their opponents.

Bidco United and City Stars struggles continue

Bidco United held Ulinzi Stars to a 1-1 draw in the round but the point did less in helping them climb the table as they only have three games the entire season and find themselves placed second from bottom with 17 points; the same number of points as Nairobi City Stars (who lost to AFC Leopards) and Posta Rangers at the bottom.

They can take solace in the fact that they are just three points off the drop zone and will be hoping to add a few new faces to the team as they seek to bounce back in the second half of the season.
